Temporarily Checked Out
Colonoscopies, they seem like a bizarre rite of passage into late middle (and beyond). They conjure a sense of unpleasantness, from the very idea of the procedure to the stumbling out of the clinic afterwards. In between there is the consuming of a vile substance with the nuisance of camping on a toilet. There is the sticking of a needle and a small gathering in a small room to view most intimately your back side. There is also a loss of consciousness or at minimum a heavy dream like state. It is strangely like a temporary death in the pursuit of delaying a permanent one.
This week a double meaning comes into play in the episode title as in being checked out by the doc and checking out of this world for a short time. Lou gets a small surprise just before the checking out begins. You can check it out too.
